Just before he ascended
into heaven, the Lord Jesus Christ gave his church instructions to keep
until he returns. He said: "All authority in heaven and on earth
has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew
28:18-20. Trinity
Presbyterian Church seeks to obey that Great Commission.
On a global level the
church prays for and supports missionaries serving in Africa, Asia, and South
America. They are sent out by the Committee on Foreign Missions of the
Orthodox Presbyterian Church. (Click here for
linguistic information on translation into the Saho and Afar languages.) Nationally, the church is involved in
outreach through the work of the Committee on Home Missions and Church
Extension. It works through the OPC's Committee on Christian Education
to help strengthen and teach the church. For an overview of these
ministries, click here.
On a regional level the
congregation is part of the Regional Church of the Northwest and its
Presbytery of the Northwest, helping to build up one another and to seek the growth
of the church in the region. The pastor and some of the ruling elders
are involved in serving committees of the presbytery. Recently they were
able to help organize Westminster
Presbyterian Church in Corvallis, as a new Orthodox Presbyterian
congregation.
And the church seeks to
serve the local community. Our daily lives in our workplaces, homes, and
neighborhoods, are part of that service of the Lord in the places he has
called us to live and work. You'll find members of Trinity serving the
Lord and their neighbors as they work in various businesses, teach in schools,
and serve in public administration. Pastor Mahaffy also serves as an
on-call chaplain at Providence Newberg Hospital.
Within the church
itself members are busy encouraging one another, enjoying fellowship, working
with young people, and teaching Sunday School classes. Monthly potluck
meals and informal discussions and encouragement help to build up one another.
